The Center for Global Dialogue is pleased to announce two new additions to its board: Akivah Northern, M. Div, and Marjorie M. Wass.
Akivah Northern, M. Div., is the founder of Global ALLWELL, an organization dedicated to global healing. Northern is currently working on her doctorate at New York Theological Seminary. She studied medicine for two years at Howard University College of Medicine and received a Masters of Divinity from Yale University. Northern also serves on the board of the Women’s Healing and Empowerment Network (WHEN). Northern’s late husband of forty three years, Babatunde Folayemi, was the first Santa Barbara City Councilmen of African descent in the city’s 250 year history. They have one adult son, Cinque Folayemi Northern, who is an award winning independent filmmaker.
Marjorie Wass is a Senior Account Executive at a local public relations agency. She graduated magna cum laude from Appalachian State University with a degree in theatre and a minor in linguistics. Wass spent two years teaching English in Morocco. She previously served on the boards of the Santa Barbara Press Club and the United Nations Association of Santa Barbara & Tri-County Chapter. In 2010, Wass was selected to participate in Rotary International’s Group Study Exchange program, travelling in Bangladesh for one month with a team of young professionals to learn about the country and exchange professional skills.
